Nicholas Cowdery AO QC FAAL was Director of Public Prosecutions for NSW from 1994 to 2011. He has spent over 50 years in criminal justice as a prosecutor, defender, judge and teacher. He was a defender in Papua New Guinea, a Barrister in Sydney, an Acting Judge of the NSW District Court and then DPP for 16 1/2 years.

Now he teaches criminal law courses at the Universities of Sydney and of NSW and is engaged in many criminal law reform projects through involvement in many committees and agencies here and overseas. He was President of the International Association of Prosecutors, inaugural Co-Chair of the Human Rights Institute of the International Bar Association and was President of the NSW Council for Civil Liberties. He is a director of the Justice Reform Initiative.

He is the author of "Getting Justice Wrong: Myths, Media and Crime" (Allen & Unwin, 2001) and co-author with Rachael Jane Chin of "Frank & Fearless" (NewSouth, 2019), as well as author of many papers, articles, chapters, etc on criminal justice matters. He comments publicly from time to time on criminal justice issues and regularly addresses community groups on such matters. His new book “Discretion in Criminal Justice” (LexisNexis) will be published in 2022.

Georgie Haysom

Georgie Haysom is the Head of Research, Education and Advocacy at medical indemnity provider, Avant.

She is a lawyer and has worked in health law for nearly 30 years, assisting and advising doctors on a wide range of medico-legal issues, including several years representing doctors in medical negligence litigation.

She has a long-standing interest in the interaction between law, medicine and ethics, and the way in which the law impacts on medical practice.

She is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and has a Bachelor of Science (Pharmacology), Bachelor of Laws (Hons 1) from the University of Sydney and a Master of Laws specialising in bioethics from McGill University.

Rebecca Overton

Dr Rebecca Overton is a GP of over twenty years experience who practices in Lindfield, and has an interest in children's, adolescent and women's health.

She gives talks to students as part of the "GPs in Schools" program, talks to students in schools about mental health and is on the GP Advisory Group for the Black Dog Institute. Last year she co-organised the inaugural "Youth Got This" Youth Mental Health Forum with the Matilda Centre at the University of Sydney.

She practices with an interest in mental health and has noted an increasing number of presentations of young people facing challenges with their mental health since the commencement of the Covid pandemic.

Nicholas Skipitaris

Dr. Nicholas T. Skipitaris is a practicing, board certified cardiac electrophysiologist. Based in New York City at Northwell Health - Lenox Hill Hospital, he is Western Regional Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology for the Northwell Health system, the largest health system in New York State and the northeast. He is associate professor of cardiovascular medicine at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra University and in addition to his MD degree, he recently completed an MBA at the MIT Sloan School of Management. He is an expert in the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias with particular interest in the treatment of atrial fibrillation. This is the longest trip that he’s taken for a 20 minute presentation but he’s thrilled to be here!
